I had the privilege of developing this work together with the company Transdata. Insto is a milestone in my professional life. The 3D model was made by me and Jefferson from the company Transdata.

Year: 2014

Operation:
Internal haulage and plate mill housings lifting by hydraulic gantries.

Highlight:
The erection and installation of the plate mill components won the Best Job of the Year 2015 from SC&RA – Specialized Carries & Rigging Association, an international association of nearly 1,300 member companies from 46 nations. The Job of the Year competition is held by the association ever year and it gathers top leading companies from around the world. Transdata is the first company in South America winner of the award.

Transdata had already performed the road transport of the cargo, considered to be the largest interstate overland haulage of the country. In continuation of supporting the expansion project of one of the largest specialty long steel manufacturers in the world, Transdata carried on the internal movement and lifting of the plate mill housings through an innovative engineering plan.

The pieces were placed in their bases through an engineering operation by hydraulic gantries. An innovative solution focused on safe execution and cost / installation time reduction. It is the first time worldwide that this procedure was adopted for lifting plate mill housings with similar characteristics.

The plate mill housings delivered are the largest components of a rolling mill equipment installed in Brazil.

Project Management in electromechanical turnkey in the implementation of the new line of Rolling Thick Sheets of Gerdau Ouro Branco/MG. This is done applying the best practices defined by the PMI in the PMBOK;

– Planning, monitoring and control of projects focusing on time, risk and cost;

– Coordination of a multidisciplinary team, including headquarters and subcontractor teams;

– Elaboration of documents such as a Project Plan, technical documents and management reports;

– Responsible for surveying and preparing the costs of commercial proposals;

– Dimensioning of lifting devices and rigging plans for complex load operations

Main achievements:

– Active participation in the development of engineering to verticalize the finishing rolling mill housings.

This operation won the Best Work of the Year Award – SC&RA 2015 by the company Transdata, which rents the gantries used to assemble the housing;

The SC&RA (Association of Specialized Transport and Lifting Companies) is the largest and only international association in the sector. It brings together around 1,300 companies from 43 countries, members specializing in complex loads handling: transport operations, lifting, sale and rental of equipment, maintenance and training.

Innovation, safety and engineering plan are the main factors considered in the judges’ evaluation. Winning the award represents significant victory for Transdata as well as for the country, as it is the first award received by a Brazilian company.

The operation consisted of the verticalization and positioning of two housings measuring 14.63 meters in length / height, weighing 325 tons each.

As a project manager, I was responsible for preparing and managing the associated investment budget and ensuring its proper application. This included elaborating the technical specifications for the contracting of equipment and conducting evaluations. I also ensure that projects are followed in line with the most modern technologies and technical quality and performance standards. I also accompanied the designer company in the discipline under its responsibility, discussing scope, design development and other related issues. I ensured that the project is completed in a timely and cost-effective manner and that all quality standards are met. I also assess the risks and opportunities associated with the project and provide guidance on how to best manage them. Overall, I strived to ensure that the project is completed within the timeline and budget set out.

Best Job
of the Year

2015

The Best Work of the Year award is a competition held at the Annual SC&RA Conference, which addresses general industry issues and brings together around 300 professionals in the field.

SC&RA (Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association) is the largest and only international association in the sector. It brings together approximately 1,300 companies from 43 countries, specialized in handling complex loads: transportation operations, rigging, equipment sales and rental, maintenance, and training.

Innovation, safety, and engineering plan are the main factors considered in the judges’ evaluation. Winning the award represents an important victory for Transdata as well as for the country, as it is the first award received by a Brazilian company.

The operation, carried out at one of the world’s largest long steel producers, involved the verticalization and positioning of two plates mill housings (main components of the steel mill equipment used for rolling thick plates) measuring 14.63 meters in length/height and weighing 325 tons each.

Transdata had already transported the pieces from the Port of Rio de Janeiro to Ouro Branco in Minas Gerais, considered the largest interstate transportation in the country. In the continuation of the installation project for the large pieces, Transdata executed the internal movement using SPMTs, the verticalization and positioning of the plate mill housings through a system of 1,000-ton capacity hydraulic gantry systems combined with another 500-ton system. It was an innovative engineering plan on a global scale, as it was the first time plate mill housings of this size and weight were installed in this manner.

Often overhead cranes or gantries are used to perform these operations. However, the solution using gantries allowed for cost and time reduction in the project, the operation could be carried out with the building already constructed, and it increased the safety factor.
